Okay, that's it. From now on, I will only go to the zoo in the winter. No shrieking kids (or adults) banging on the exhibit windows, no huge lines, no mosquitoes, no gnats, no pressure to move because there are a gazillion other people behind you....

I probably ran into about 20 people in total at the zoo today, not including people who work there. Lovely.

Alright now, World of Birds first! I, of course, neglected to write down the names of the birds I saw, so these are rough guesses.

Close up of um...a bird. I can't even guess what this one's called, sorry.
Different shot of the unidentified bird.
Irate hornbill. This bird was very loud.
Different type of hornbill. I know it looks fake, but honestly, it's real!
A pheasant! I love them. They're so fat and cute.
Yellow-bellied something or other. It's odd how completely fake-looking this picture is, isn't it?
This bird damn near pooped on me. Let me point out that this bird was approximately the size of my upper body...
Not a great pic, but this bird was large and loud and neat.
I'm calling this one the Pompador.
Peacock stalking fish. Okay, funny story--this peacock is apparently the only one of its kind in North America, and it almost got away because the security guard that was keeping an eye on this exhibit was busy chatting me up. The bird escaped through a doorway and was chased back by another zoo employee. It's beautiful isn't it?

Depressed looking tapir

Tigers! We didn't get to see the tigers when we went to the zoo in the summer, so I was very pleased to be able to spend as much time as I wanted. The Bronx Zoo has built a really amazing tiger habitat exhibit that lets you get VERY close to the tigers...wild picture taking ensued.
Zen tigers.
Striped.
Mauling the log.
Posing on rock.
Ignoring the tourists.
Cuddling.
Staring back.
Ho-hum.
What?
Looking in opposite directions.
Pondering a move.

Then I went crazy with the polar bears.
Playing with giant spool thing.
Hmmm.
Out for a stroll.
Bit sheddy, if you ask me.

Man. It was such a good day...beautiful weather, lovely tigers and all.
